Safety is the primary component of quality of life. The Garland Police Department and the Garland Fire Department offer programs that enhance the quality of life in the community by ensuring that Garland remains a safe city.  

Citizens Police Academy

The Garland Citizens Police Academy focuses attention on the internal values, philosophy and operations of the Garland Police Department.  Designed for resident, the academy educates participants about the hows and whys of the department, and the resident’s role in the interaction of the community and police.  Download the Citizens Police Academy Application.

Citizens Fire Academy

The Garland Fire Department Citizens Fire Academy is a program intended to familiarize and inform residents of the services provided by the Fire Department along with the hows and whys of the Fire Department.  Download the Citizens Fire Academy Application.

Volunteers in Policing

Garland Police Department volunteers assist with providing services to Garland residents by contributing their time, expertise and commitment to the Police Department. Members of this group perform several different functions, including data entry, squad car maintenance, and special event assistance.

Citizens on Patrol (COPs)

The Garland Police Department’s Citizens On Patrol (C.O.P.) program is an extension of the Neighborhood Crime Watch program and provides an opportunity for residents to take an active role in crime prevention in their neighborhood.  An application is required for this program.
