Notable Citywide Projects

Energy Audits

Consultant: McKinstry

Consultant completed basic energy audit evaluations on a minimum of 500,000 square feet of city facilities and develop short and long term energy efficiency improvement opportunities for the city. Beyond these evaluations the consultant recommended financing options and suggested methods for how these improvements can be funded and timely implemented.

Green House Gas Inventory

Consultant: Shaw Environmental

Consultant developed a carbon footprint for the city and also the community at large. Carbon footprint is defined as the “total set of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions caused by an organization, event, product or person" usually expressed in equivalent tons of carbon dioxide (CO2).

In the analysis the consultant developed the footprint using six (6) greenhouse gases and categorized amount impacts by percentages within the municipal government and community at large. The consultant further developed a process so that the city can continue to update annual emission figures without costly recalculating efforts led by future consulting engagements. By doing so the action serves to assist the city in strengthening financial accountability and in becoming self sufficient (sustainable) by reducing dependency on outside agencies conducting future greenhouse gas studies.

Healthy Workplace Plan

Consultant: Gresham Smith and Partners

Consultant assisted the municipality in developing an internal sustainability plan that will be used to aid the municipality in leading by example. The term "sustainability" has been defined as it relates to the city along with a vision statement applicable and designed uniquely to address the current and future needs of the city while being mindful of social, economic and environmental concerns.

The plan base-lined existing program and services and offers target objectives toward enhanced program and service delivery along with opportunities to reduce kilowatt consumption and conserve water as well as other natural resources. Methods to efficiently report data both current and future was identified along with the development of a Climate Action sub-plan that sets future greenhouse gas limits through emission offsets/reductions.
