Garland’s Mayor and two City Council members have been appointed to National League of Cities (NLC) committees.
Garland Mayor Douglas Athas has been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2016 Community and Economic Development Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness.
“Garland is recognized on the national level for innovation in municipal governance,” said Mayor Athas. “These appointments are an important opportunity for Garland’s elected representatives to provide leadership and to learn from other cities across the nation.”
The National League of Cities (NLC) is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
