Garland Mayor Douglas Athashas been reappointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2016 Community and Economic Development Committee. This committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving housing, community and economic development, land use, recreation and parks, historic preservation and international competitiveness. The appointment was announced by NLC President Melodee Colbert-Kean, Council Member, Joplin, MO.
“During the last several years, I have had the opportunity to work closely with the National League of Cities to make a difference in our communities,” said Mayor Athas. “I am extremely proud to serve on the NLC’s Community and Economic Development Steering Committee again this year, and I look forward to sharing Garland’s values and successes with cities from across the country.”
As a member of the committee, Mayor Athas will play a key role in shaping NLC’s policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities and towns before Congress, with the Administration and at home.
The chair of this year’s Community and Economic Development Committee is Craig Thurmond, Mayor, Broken Arrow, OK. Serving as this year’s vice chairs are Gerri Schroder, Council Member, Henderson, NV, and Gyna Bivens, Council Member, Fort Worth.
