Library’s Book Discussion Group Reads "The Swan Thieves"
The Page Turners, the Library’s Book Discussion Group, will meet on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m., at the North Garland Branch Library, 3845 North Garland Ave., at Apollo Rd.
The group will discuss The Swan Thieves, by Elizabeth Kostova. When Robert Oliver, a renowned painter, attempts to destroy a painting in the National Gallery, he ends up in a psychiatric hospital refusing to speak. He comes under the care of a psychiatrist, Dr. Andrew Marlow, who is himself a painter. As the doctor tries to uncover what motivated Oliver in his attack, he becomes obsessed with Oliver’s history and begins a complex journey into Oliver’s life. The story moves through several centuries, locales, and characters as it examines the power of creativity and artistic obsession.
All interested readers are invited to join the discussion, or just come to listen. During facility renovations at the Central Library, the Page Turners will temporarily meet at the North Garland Branch Library. For more information, call 972-205-2502.
