Garland Fair Housing Services will host free English and Spanish workshops every third Saturday bi-monthly from 10 a.m. to noon at the City Unified Learning Center located at 232 Carver Drive. This free interactive workshop, called Fair Housing and You, is a comprehensive review of the Federal Fair Housing Act and Garland's Fair Housing Ordinance.
Fair Housing encompasses numerous practices that are prohibited by law with regard to discrimination in renting, selling, and financing housing. Discriminatory treatment because of one's race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability and familial status, is prohibited. Age also is protected locally. Garland is one of five cities in Texas that has a Fair Housing enforcement mechanism readily available to provide residents with the information and resources needed to ensure that discriminatory practices do not hinder housing choices in Garland.
The vision of Garland Fair Housing Services is for everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy their homes and communities free from discrimination.
