In addition to honoring its eightieth anniversary, Garland’s Nicholson Memorial Library System has another reason to celebrate. The Library recently accepted a Texas Library Association PR Branding Iron Award for Print Media Advertising.
The Branding Iron Awards are presented annually by the Texas Library Association and honor public relations projects in ten categories. These categories include outdoor advertising, editorial page strategies, speeches, broadcast advertising, print media advertising, non-traditional media promotions, special events, PR plans, brands and logos, and collateral materials.
The Library received the Branding Iron Award for its 80th Anniversary print media campaign. The campaign ran for eight weeks and consisted of paid advertisements, posters, and web images. All the advertisements featured the tagline “Got your card yet? I did,” cardholding community members, and the years they signed up for their cards, which ranged from the 1960s to 2010s. Participating community members included a police officer, firefighter, school district and Chamber of Commerce employees, a local business representative, storytime mom, childhood library friends, and the Garland Youth Council.
