The City of Garland continues to work on updating and streamlining its development-related regulations such as zoning requirements, subdivision regulations and other design and development standards. The proposed Garland Development Code (GDC) will consolidate such regulations to avoid inconsistency, improve efficiency, and integrate all types of development into one comprehensive approach to development.
The City hosted a series of informational meetings in December and January to give people an opportunity to learn about the changes and ask questions. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, the City will host a meeting at Garland City Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. to discuss the proposed Downtown Form-Based Code portion of the GDC. Downtown property owners, tenants, and developers will have an opportunity to give feedback during this meeting.
Beginning Thursday, Feb. 13, the Garland City Council and the Plan Commission will host a series of joint work sessions to review and discuss each section of the GDC document. These work sessions will be held every Thursday, except March 13, until the entire document has been reviewed. These work sessions will be televised on the City’s government access cable channel, CGTV, which is available on AT&T Uverse channel 99, Time Warner Cable channel 16, and Verizon FIOS channel 44. CGTV is also streamed on the City’s website at GarlandTx.gov. Click on the “CGTV Videos” button. These work sessions are also open to the public and will be held at Garland City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
After the work sessions have concluded, public hearings will be scheduled. For more information about the GDC, visit GarlandDevCode.org.
