Something New on the Garland Skyline

Downtown Garland’s City Center project will bring a new feature to the City’s skyline, at least temporarily.

A tower crane will be installed in early February as part of the construction of the new parking garage behind City Hall. The crane will be approximately 100 feet tall and will span across the construction area. It will be in place for approximately four to six months.

Downtown visitors may notice some movement of the crane, even if it is not in use. Tower cranes are designed to move with the wind, and such movement is not cause for concern. However, individuals may call 972-205-3333 if they are concerned.

The current project is the latest phase of Garland’s downtown redevelopment strategy, which includes 153 apartment units to be constructed and managed by Oaks Properties. The City of Garland is constructing a parking structure to serve the public, apartment residents, and those accessing City Hall.

City Hall renovations also are included in the plans and will consist of reskinning the facility’s facade, updating City Hall to current building code and safety requirements, and expanding the studio for CGTV—Garland’s government access channel. Other enhancements to the area will include updates to streetscape and utility infrastructure, and additional pocket parks/open spaces for residents to enjoy.
