Garland, TX, August 16, 2011 - Outdoor recreation offers many healthy and life-enhancing benefits for people of all ages and abilities. To help motivate people to get off the couch and become more active, the Garland Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department and Bass Pro Shops have joined together to host the second annual Outdoor Festival on Saturday, September 10, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Bass Pro Shops on Lake Ray Hubbard in Garland.
Festival visitors will learn from outdoor recreation experts and enthusiasts about the many outdoor recreation opportunities available in the Garland area such as fishing, canoeing, hiking, windsurfing, off-road bicycling, disk golf, camping, and more. While visiting information booths from outdoor groups, adults and children can experience hands-on activities such as fly casting, kayaking, archery, outdoor cooking, paintball, and crafts.
According to City of Garland Recreation Superintendent Warren Bird, “Outdoor recreation promotes family bonding, environmental awareness, natural area preservation, and is a vital ingredient to a high quality of life.” The Outdoor Festival is part of the GarlandParks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Department’s vision to make Garland an active, enjoyable, healthy, and inviting city for generations to come.
