Garland hosts the 2013 edition of the Healthy Living Expo on Saturday, Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd. The Expo features information and activities in support of personal and environmental health.
This year’s event will include a special health screening for young people ages 12-22. Representatives from “Living for Zachary” will conduct heart screenings as part of their ongoing effort to prevent sudden cardiac arrest in young people. “Living for Zachary” was founded in honor of Zachary Schrah, who was only 16 years old when he collapsed during a 2009 high school football practice in Plano.
The non-invasive screening includes an electrocardiogram (EKG), an echocardiogram, and a blood pressure test. It is necessary to pre-register and select an appointment time for the heart screenings at http://l4z.teamfrontera.com/. Each screening costs $100 and will take about 20 minutes to complete.
Admission to the Healthy Living Expo is free. The first 750 patrons who visit the Expo will receive a free folding tote bag. Only one bag per family, please.
The Healthy Living Expo is presented by Baylor Medical Center at Garland, the City of Garland Water Utilities, Environmental Waste Services, and Stormwater Management, Garland Power & Light, Garland Independent School District, and the Garland Chamber of Commerce with Fox4 as broadcast media sponsor. Other friends of the Expo include Frost Bank and Batteries Plus. For more details about Healthy Living Expo activities, visit GoGreenGarland.org.
