The Garland City Council recognized Felisa Conner as the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Neighborhood Service Award for her contribution to neighborhood improvement in Garland.
On May 7, Mayor Ronald E. Jones, on behalf of the City Council, presented the award for going “above and beyond” the expectations and duties of her position with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality by providing innovation and personal commitment to Garland neighborhoods. She has expanded the annual Neighborhood Summit to a highly regarded event, both locally and nationally, with workshops and industry-leading speakers sharing concepts to expand the ability of not only Garland residents, but also professional staff and local decision makers.
The impact of Felisa Conner’s work can be seen in the growth of the Office of Neighborhood Vitality, but most importantly, it can be seen in the many neighborhood associations, vitality projects, community partnerships, and neighborhood-focused programs and events that have resulted from her commitment to growing and increasing the depth of what is offered to Garland neighborhoods.
The Strategy for Vital Neighborhoods’ Neighborhood Resource Team established the annual Excellence in Neighborhood Service Award in 2008 to recognize city employees whose qualities and actions exemplify the following philosophy of the Strategy: “Recognizing the strength of Garland is the character of its neighborhoods; we will work in partnership with neighborhood stake holders and community resources to build a stronger community and keep Garland an excellent place to live and invest.”
