The City of Garland is honored to be recognized as a recipient of the LIVE UNITED Award for Public Services by the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. By engaging city employees to coordinate fundraising activities to help support the United Way, more than $68,000 was raised during 2012.
Last year’s campaign kicked off with a breakfast, and throughout the year, included departmental bake sales, raffles, and popcorn sales. In addition, city employees could buy a “Jeans Day” pass to use on a workday other than “Casual” Friday. Also, Garland employees supporting the campaign gave presentations to help make coworkers aware of payroll deduction pledges to support the United Way.
In announcing the 2013 UW awards, Jennifer Sampson, President and CEO of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas, explained, “Because of your organization’s support, more students will graduate and succeed, more families will leave poverty permanently and more people will live healthy, responsible lives.”
The City Garland will join other UW award winners at the “Heroes of Hope” celebration on February 19.
