Garland Aquatics Manager Receives International Safety Award
City of Garland Aquatics and Sports Manager George Deines was honored with the Kelly Ogle Memorial Safety Award by the World Waterpark Association. The award is given to an individual or organization for significant contributions to guest and employee safety in the water attractions industry.
Deines has been working in the aquatics industry for 12 years, and has spent the past five years in Garland where he oversees operations at four City swimming pools, including Surf and Swim, the first municipal wave pool in Texas. During Deines’ tenure in Garland, City pools have received the highest rating on 7 out of the 10 operations audits by aquatic safety consulting firm Jeff Ellis and Associates and also received two Gold and two Silver Aquatic Safety Awards from Ellis.
For the past several years, Deines has directed Surf and Swim to participate in the World’s Largest Swim Lesson event to promote the importance of swim lessons to prevent drowning. Deines has become a leader and sought after speaker in the aquatics industry, presenting at several industry conferences. He currently serves on the World Waterpark Association’s Public Sector Committee and the Children’s Drowning Prevention Council. He also serves as the President of the North Texas Aquatic Association.
