Garland’s annual Healthy Living Expo is set for Saturday, Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd. The event features exhibits, demonstrations and information sharing about healthy, safe and efficient lifestyles. Visitors will bring home lots of useful ideas and information, and even some new toys and tools.
But you should do a little clutter-clearing at home before you go and plan to drop off some of your unwanted or unneeded items at the Expo. Check out these opportunities to recycle and reuse:
Comfort Keepers - Bring gently used medical equipment such as canes, walkers and shower chairs.
Drug Drop – Clean out your medicine cabinet and bring all your unwanted or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications to Operation Medicine Drop, where they will be disposed of safely and properly.
Electronics Recycling – Naaman Forest High School will collect electronics for recycling. Drop off computers, monitors, printers and cartridges, cell phones and much more.
Eyeglasses Recycling – Drop off your discarded eyeglasses at the Lions Club donation collection box to provide the gift of sight to people around the world.
Goodwill – If you have gently used clothing or household items, Goodwill will be on hand to collect those donations on behalf of families in need.
Paper Shredding - Alliance Document Shredding will be on site to receive personal documents for shredding. Volunteers will assist with unloading boxes. Only four boxes per household, please.
Shoe Donations – The Shoe Bank will collect gently used children’s shoes and adult athletic shoes. These shoes will go to needy families in the Dallas area and around the world.
Admission to the Expo is free. The first 500 patrons who visit the Expo will receive a free sports bag, courtesy of RBC Capital Markets. Only one bag per family, please.
The Healthy Living Expo is presented by Baylor Medical Center at Garland, the City of Garland Water Utilities, Environmental Waste Services, and Stormwater Management, Garland Power & Light, Garland Independent School District, and the Garland Chamber of Commerce with Fox4 as broadcast media sponsor.
