Fleeing Motorcyclist Dies
Tonight around 8:40pm Garland Police observed a motorcycle travelling in excess of 100 mph northbound on IH 635 take the exit at Northwest Highway. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the motorcycle near the 1700 block of Northwest Highway and observed the motorcycle to accelerate at a high speed and flee eastbound on Northwest Highway.
As the motorcycle approached the intersection of Northwest Highway and Centerville Road, the rider lost control and struck the rear of a white Cadillac at the intersection. The rider was ejected and the motorcycle came to rest on the sidewalk. A 20 year old female, who was sitting on a bench waiting for a DART bus at the same intersection, was struck by the motorcycle. She suffered minor injuries and refused to be transported to the hospital by the Garland Fire Department.
The 22 year old male who was ejected from the motorcycle was flown by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he was pronounced dead. The Garland Police will conduct a review of the chase to ensure that the chase was within guidelines.
The name of the 22 year old male is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
