Most people will set goals to live healthier, save money or get rid of clutter. Garland’s annual Healthy Living Expo can help you achieve those goals with exhibits, demonstrations and information sharing about healthy, safe and efficient lifestyles. This year’s event will include a new attraction, the H20 5K is sponsored by the City of Garland’s Water and Stormwater Management departments to raise awareness about conserving and protecting water resources while encouraging physical fitness.
The Expo is set for Saturday, Sept. 22, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd. “This event is full of resources and ideas for our residents and neighbors who want to learn more about personal health, environmental health and safety issues that impact the entire family,” says Garland Mayor Ronald E. Jones. “I hope everyone will mark their calendars for this truly valuable opportunity.”
Healthy You exhibitors will offer screenings for bone density, blood pressure, and cholesterol, along with helpful insights for nutrition, exercise and more. Flu shots also will be available for a cost.
Healthy Earth exhibitors will feature landscaping information, energy-saving advice, recycling information and much more. You will have the opportunity to recycle or donate a multitude of items.
The event will also include adoptable pets from the Garland Animal Shelter, electronics recycling, paper shredding, a drop-off for expired or unwanted medications, and donation drop-offs for shoes and discarded eyeglasses.

The H20 5K will begin at 8:30 a.m. Advance registration is $10 or $15 day of the event. Online registration will be available on the Healthy Living Expo website at GarlandGoesGreen.org. First 300 registered runners will receive a race t-shirt, as well as a bag filled with goodies regarding water conservation and protection.
Admission to the Expo is free. The first 500 patrons who visit the Expo will receive a free sports bag, courtesy of RBC Capital Markets. Only one bag per family, please.
