Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department Wins Lone Star Programming Achievement Award
On Feb. 21, the Garland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department received an award for innovative and effective recreation programming at the 2019 Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS) State Conference in El Paso.
The Lone Star Programming Achievement Award honors a new program or special event offered for the first time. Garland earned the award for the Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race & Oktoberfest. The unique and original event was held in September 2018, with more than 200 runners and 500 to 1,000 spectators, and will continue in September 2019.
In addition to the programming award, Parks Facilities Supervisor Dale Brison earned third place in the Nail Driving Competition at the TRAPS Maintenance Rodeo Competition.
