Suspect Rams Police Car
Just before 5:00 pm Garland officers were responding to the report of a disturbance in the 300 block of Harvard Drive. As the first officer was arriving she spotted a white SUV believed to be involved in the disturbance. The officer started following the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop on Centerville Road just east of N.W. Highway. The SUV pulled into the south parking lot of the Tom Thumb store located in the 900 block of N.W. Highway. Soon after the stop the SUV backed up and began to ram the officer’s squad car. The officer stepped from her car and shot into the back of the SUV. The SUV then sped away and headed toward LBJ Freeway with the officer in pursuit. The SUV turned west onto LBJ and continued west. There were several objects observed being thrown from the SUV during the chase. The SUV traveled over Plano Road and attempted to make a u-turn, going the wrong way, onto the west bound entrance ramp of Plano Road. There was an additional police car on the entrance ramp that stopped the SUV from traveling down the ramp. The SUV attempted to turn back onto LBJ and as it did its left front wheel and tire came off. The SUV traveled back onto LBJ heading east on the west bound side for a short distance and crashed into a guard rail. Two males got out of the SUV and began trying to get into vehicles that had either slowed or stopped on the roadway. One lady had pulled over, slightly lowered her passenger window, and one of the men reached in and broke out the window. Officers closed in and were able to take both suspects into custody.
