Firewheel to Host Pro Golfers at Web.com Qualifying Tournament
The Bridges Course at Firewheel Golf Park proves Garland is home to a top Texas golf course. The PGA TOUR selected Garland’s course to host a Web.com Tour first-stage qualifying tournament.
From Sept. 23 to 28, about 100 professional golfers will compete at Firewheel, the City of Garland’s municipal golf complex, for a chance to make it onto the prestigious PGA TOUR. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will be among the players vying for a tour spot.
“Firewheel’s courses continue to gain recognition and the attention of the PGA and PGA TOUR,” said Director of Golf Don Kennedy. “We’ve hosted PGA-sanctioned events, giving the organizations a chance to see that our courses are in great condition.”
To get the Bridges Course looking pristine, preparations began in June. Kennedy noted work on the course’s fairways, roughs, tees and clubhouse.
“This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our golf course and facility. Not only to professional golfers, but for anyone in Garland and the surrounding area,” said Kennedy.
Admission to the tournament is free for spectators. Firewheel welcomes golf enthusiasts to walk the course with the pros, set up chairs along the course, or watch the action from the Branding Iron Restaurant.
Practice rounds for the tournament will begin Sunday, Sept. 23, and continue Monday, Sept. 24. The qualifying tournament will be played Tuesday through Friday, beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending around 5 p.m. each day.
