Homemade Pumpkin Dog Treats

If you’re looking to get your dog in the Halloween spirit, try these quick and easy pumpkin dog treats!

1 fresh pumpkin (peel and dice into cubes, about one cup)
1 ½ cup rice flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
½ tablespoon ground ginger
1 egg
1 cup honey
1 cup vegetable oil

Cooking instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line a flat cookie sheet with parchment paper.
2. Put pumpkin cubes into a saucepan of water and bring to a boil. Drain pumpkin and allow to cool. Puree pumpkin in blender or food processor (or mash the pumpkin to a puree). Chill in refrigerator.
3. Combine flour, cinnamon and ginger in a bowl and mix well.
4. Combine egg, honey and vegetable oil in separate bowl and whisk until well combined.
5. Add the chilled pumpkin puree to the wet ingredients and whisk until well combined.
6. Slowly add the dry ingredients, whisking well until all ingredients are combined.
7. With a teaspoon, spoon the batter into “patties” on the cookie sheet, leaving about one inch between each.
8. Bake for 15 minutes. To test, insert a toothpick into the patty. If the toothpick comes out clean, the treat is ready and can be removed from the oven. Allow treats to cool before serving.

This recipe makes approximately 30 dog treats. They’re best consumed fresh, so freeze any leftovers that are not consumed within 72 hours.
