Garland Firefighters’ Book Preps Rookies

Garland Fire Captain Collin Blasingame, Captain Justin Dickstein and Driver/Engineer John Gomez recently released the second edition of their book, The Station-Ready Rookie.

The firefighters found that while fire academies teach the fundamentals and technical skills of firefighting, “life as a rookie” is an area that is mostly overlooked. To address this, the trio created a guide that shortens a new firefighter’s learning curve, prepares them for station life and guides them through their first year.

Perfect for aspiring firefighters and new recruits, The Station-Ready Rookie also has been adopted as mandatory state curriculum for Firefighter I certification in Alabama and Connecticut, and is used by training academies across the United States. You can purchase the book here.
