Garland Heritage Celebration: Entertainment Highlights
The third annual Garland Heritage Celebration will have fun and entertainment for the entire family, and multiple opportunities to enjoy learning more about Garland’s history.
Friday, April 22, The Antique American Independent Automobile Association’s vintage car tour will stop on the Downtown Square for a pop-up car show. It’s all part of their celebration of the 100th anniversary of the historic Bankhead Highway. The activities will begin at approximately 11 a.m. More information about the car tour and the Bankhead Highway is available at GarlandHeritage.com.
The Plaza Theatre will host the premiere of the documentary, Saving Magic 11th Street, at 2 p.m. This film features the story of Garland’s Travis College Hill Historic District. After the film, the film’s director, Matthew J. Moore, will host a question-and-answer session. The afternoon will also feature a presentation called “Growing Up on the Bankhead” and a discussion about gaining a historical designation for Downtown Garland.
At 7 p.m. the Plaza will show Alfred Hitchcock’s Lifeboat starring Tallulah Bankhead, granddaughter of the highway’s namesake, John Hollis Bankhead. All of Friday’s theatrical presentations are free and open to the public.
The celebration continues on Saturday with a series of presentations at the Landmark Museum, as well as children’s activities, live music and museum tours.
