14 Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) arrests were made during 17 days of increased enforcement. Garland Police stepped up its DWI patrols from December 15 through December 31 in an effort to keep Garland citizens and visitors safe during the Christmas and New Year Holiday.
Garland Police have recovered video from a robbery that occurred on December 9 at a Metro PCS located in the 400 block of North Garland Ave. Detectives believe this suspect is responsible for two other robberies in Garland, one at a Metro PCS located in the 3100 block of Saturn Rd. on 11/17 and another at a Cricket Wireless located in the 3000 block of Broadway Blvd. on 12/20. Detectives believe the same suspect may be responsible for two other robberies committed in Dallas and Carrollton.
Suspect Dies in Vehicle Crash After Fleeing from Police
Garland Police arrested 17 year old Scott Lynn Litton for the shooting death of the 15 year old juvenile.
This morning shortly before 1:30 am, Garland Police responded to the report of someone shot in the 900 block of East Linda Drive. When officers arrived they found a female in the front yard of her residence suffering from a gunshot wound.
18 DWI arrests made during the 17 days of increased enforcement. Garland Police stepped up its Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) patrols from August 18 to September 3 in an effort to keep Garland citizens and visitors safe during the Labor Day Holiday.
Garland Police are investigating two separate aggravated robberies, investigators believe to have been committed by the same suspect. One occurred at the Quality Inn and Suites located in the 1600 block of E. I-30, the other at the Tuesday Morning located in the 400 block of W. I-30.
On September 4, at approximately 6:30 pm, Garland Police responded to the report of a vehicle crashing into a house in the 1300 block of McDonald Drive. While responding, officers were made aware that people from one vehicle were shooting a gun at the other.
Garland Police are stepping up DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) patrols from Friday, August 18 through Sunday, September 3. The patrols will be active in the night time hours by utilizing both marked and unmarked police cars.

On July 21, shortly after 2:30 am, Garland Police and Fire responded to the report of a person struck in the westbound lanes of LBJ Freeway near Jupiter Road. Two People Killed were killed by Suspected Drunk Driver.
Garland Police will step up DWI patrols starting Saturday, June 24 and run them through Wednesday, July 5.
Last night, June 20, at approximately 11:30 pm, Garland Police responded to the report of a pedestrian struck in the westbound lanes of the 400 block of E. I-30. When officers arrived they observe a female laying on the roadway who appeared to be dead.
The pedestrian who died in the crash this morning has been identified as Tiffany R. Cox-Russell of Garland.
Investigators are asking if anyone witnessed the crash or has any other information to call the Garland Police Department at 972-205-4063.
Garland Officers Use Life-Saving Training and Equipment to Save Lives

Garland police are searching for 82 year old Jerry Overman Boone. Mrs. Boone has been missing from her home in the 1700 block of Audrey Drive for over 8 hours. She is driving a black 2006 Chevrolet Equinox with Texas license plate, BYN3382.
Garland Police are investigating a hit and run crash that occurred last night where a driver struck a motorcycle and fled the scene, leaving the driver of the motorcycle in critical condition.
Garland Police are investigating an incident where a 13 year old child was enticed to enter a car by an unknown subject.
Officer Jones assisted a motorist whose vehicle hood had unlatched while driving, and her actions left a lasting impression.
Rodney Collins Smith has been arrested and charged with the murder of Linda Harris.
On January 1, Garland Police responded to a welfare check at the Parkside Apartments in the 1900 block of West Kingsley Road. When officers arrived they located the victim, Linda Lee Harris, dead inside her apartment. Officers believe she was murdered.
Homicide detectives have identified the suspect as 39 year old Rodney Collins Smith. A murder warrant has been issued for his arrest.
The 15 year old juvenile suspect is in custody and charged with murder.

This morning, December 2, at approximately 6:00 am, Garland Police responded to the report of a stabbing at Pacesetters Job Placement Center located in the 3100 block of Saturn Road. When responding officers arrived they observed that three people had been stabbed.
The victim who was in critical condition died from his wounds. He is identified as 31 year old Darius Robinson of Garland.
Anderson is charged with Murder.
Garland Police have arrested four people believed to be responsible for the murder of Ismael Mendez. They are identified as 28 year old Silvino Ricardo Arevalo, 26 year old David Ricardo Martinez, 33 year old Tanisha Renne Macias, and 26 year old Adriana Ortega, all of Dallas.
This morning, November 11, at approximately 12:30 am, Garland Police responded to a general disturbance in the area of Centerville Road and Broadway Boulevard. Responding officers were made aware that there were two vehicles involved in a crash and gunshots were being fired.
This morning, October 22, at 12:45 am, Garland Police responded to the report of a stabbing in an apartment complex located in the 4300 block of Rosehill Road. When officers arrived they observed a male subject lying outside on the ground unresponsive. Garland Paramedics transported the victim to Baylor of Dallas where he later died.
Tre’ Devonte Jones, the victim shot at a residence in the 700 block of Santiago Drive, died from his gunshot wound late Friday night, September 30.
Deion Coston has been charged with Manslaughter; currently held in the Dallas County Jail.
Bond is set at $25,000.
On September 29, shortly after 5:30 pm, Garland Police responded to the report of a man shot at a residence in the 700 block of Santiago Drive. Upon arrival responding officers observed a male subject in the garage of the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
The Garland Police Department has arrested one of the suspects responsible for the robberies against teens with cell phones. The suspect in custody is a 16 year old male juvenile and is believed to be responsible for the robbery that occurred in the 1600 block of North Glenbrook on September 21.
The Garland Police Department is investigating three Robberies that occurred in the morning hours of September 21 and September 22, where juveniles were robbed of their cell phones. The three robberies occurred in the northern part of Garland while juveniles were either waiting at a bus stop or walking to school.
On September 13, shortly after 4:30 pm, Garland Police responded to the report of a woman dead inside a home in the 900 block of Meadowdale Circle. Responding officers arrived and were met by a male subject outside the home who stated he had killed the woman inside.

Garland Traffic Investigators have identified one driver and vehicle involved in the hit and run accident that occurred in the early morning hours on July 31. The driver of a Ford Explorer contacted investigators after seeing the news.
On July 31 at approximately 3:30 am, Garland Police responded to the report of an accident where a subject had been run over in the 12500 block of E. LBJ Freeway. Officers arrived and observed a subject lying on the ground in the middle of the highway. The responding officers shut down the highway and notified traffic investigators.

This morning at approximately 1:30 am, Garland Police responded to the report of an aggravated robbery in the 1800 block of Patton Dr. The victim stated he was robbed by several male subjects armed with long-guns and handguns, and stole his 2007 Silver Chevrolet Tahoe. The victim stated that the suspects exited a red passenger car before robbing him and then fled the scene in both vehicles.
Garland Homicide Detectives have obtained a warrant for 53 year old Donald Ray Giles, of Dallas, for the murder of Donald Wayne St Clair. Giles is known to frequent areas in Garland and Dallas; he also has ties to Houston.

On July 2, shortly after 3:00 pm, Garland Police responded to a Domestic Disturbance in the area of Centerville Rd. and Broadway Blvd. The female caller advised that she was being followed by her ex-boyfriend who had threatened to kill her and was driving a black Chevrolet passenger vehicle.
On Monday, June 13, at approximately 7:30pm, Garland Police responded to the report a man found dead in the 4200 block of Mayflower Dr. Officers arrived and observed the body of a man in the backyard of the residence who was later determined to have died from a gunshot wound.
Garland Police are searching for a vehicle and its driver involved in a fatality hit & run accident that occurred on April 14, 2016.
Shortly after 8:30 pm, officers responded to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the 5500 block of Lyons Road. When officers arrived they observed a male lying in the roadway with severe injuries.
On April 13, at approximately 11:00 pm, Garland Police responded to a multiple car crash on southbound LBJ Freeway near La Prada. When officers arrived they observed that 4 vehicles had been involved in the accident. An 18 year old woman and 4 year old female child were killed.
On May 16, 2015, Crystal Nuncio, who was employed by the Garland Police Department Communications Unit, was killed in a head on collision by a driver traveling the wrong way on LBJ. The driver, Luis Angel Rodriguez, who was driving the other vehicle,was sentenced today to 13 years in prison.
15 DWI arrests were made during 18 days of increased enforcement. Garland Police stepped up its Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) patrols, from March 4 through March 21, in an effort to keep Garland citizens and visitors safe during the Spring Break Holiday.
On March 18, shortly after 8:00 am, pursued a stolen vehicle into Dallas and arrested two occupants.
On March 8, shortly after 9:00 am, Garland Police and Fire responded to the report of a weather-related injury and damage to three businesses in the 2600 block of Industrial Lane.
On February 24, at approximately 11:00 pm, Garland Police responded to an aggravated robbery that occurred at Indian Lake Park located in the 1200 block of Briar Hollow Lane.
On February 18 shortly after 8:30 pm, Garland Police responded to an aggravated robbery at the SK Mart convenience store located in the 1400 block of N. Glenbrook.
On January 30, Garland Police responded to a fatality hit and run accident in the 2400 block of W. Kingsley Road where a female pedestrian was struck and killed by a gold Ford Mustang convertible with a black top that had fled the location.
Yesterday afternoon Garland Police arrested and charged 28 year old Jorge Luis Pineda Urtado of Garland for Failure to Stop and Render Aid – Involving Death.

Update to Homeowner Fatally Shoots Man
The Garland Police Department is working closely with the Texas Department of Insurance and the National Insurance Crime Bureau in order to protect the residents of Garland from unscrupulous individuals who prey upon disaster victims.
Garland Fire Department’s Chief Raymond Knight has recognized Garland police officer Shaun Smith with the Public Safety Herosim Award. Chief Knight described the incident in a letter written to the Garland Police Department.
$250,000 of K2 (Synthetic Marihuana) was seized last week during a drug bust. Owners and operators, Bok Shin and Myung Shin, of MK Beauty Supply and Wayne’s Convenience Store were arrested for delivery and possession of the dangerous street drug.
This morning at just after 7 a.m., Garland Police responded to the 5200 block of Hollow Bend Lane on reported gunshots. When officers arrived, they were told several men had come inside the home to rob them. During the attempted robbery, shots were exchanged between the robbers and the homeowner.
Excellence is made at the City of Garland, and that excellence has been sought after to influence another Texas city. The Garland Police Department will soon say farewell to one of its assistant chiefs, who will serve as the new Chief of Police for the McKinney Police Department.
For the second year in a row, the City of Garland received national recognition as one of the top 10 safest cities. According to Law Street Media, Garland is ranked ninth in the “Top 10 Safest Cities Over 200,000” in the United States.
