Garland Names New Transportation Director
December 13, 2012  The City of Garland welcomes a familiar face to take the helm of its Transportation Department. Paul Luedtke has been named Director of Transportation. His span of responsibilities will include establishing and recommending traffic control regulations and devices, maintaining and operating the City’s traffic signal system, traffic control signs and pavement markings. The Transportation Department also oversees the School Crossing Guard program, the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program, development reviews and coordination with other transportation agencies.

Fencing Requirement for Pit Bull Dogs
August 1, 2011  Garland, Texas – May 24, 2010 -- Garland Animal Services is preparing to enforce new fencing requirements for pit bull dogs or pit bull crossbreeds. Pit bull dogs or crossbreeds thereof have been responsible for the most dog bites since statistics have been kept (2004). Additionally, 27% of the dogs caught while running at large are pit bull dogs.

Quiet Zone Established at Certain Garland Railroad Crossings
July 12, 2011  Beginning July 12, 2011, a railroad quiet zone will be established by the City of Garland along the Kansas City Southern Railroad mainline, in order to improve safety and minimize the impacts of train horn noise. The KCS mainline runs from south to north Garland along side South Garland Avenue and Lavon Drive as well as throught downtown Garland. Railroad quiet zones are federally approved groups of railroad crossings at which train horns are NOT routinely sounded.

City Code Inspector Wins State Award
April 19, 2011  Garland, Texas -- April 19, 2011 -- Oswaldo Rodriguez, field supervisor in the City of Garland Code Compliance Department, is being recognized by Keep Texas Beautiful as the winner of the 2011 Ed Davis Litter Law Enforcement Award. This award recognizes an individual law enforcement professional who goes above and beyond the call of duty in their approach to the enforcement of environmental laws and regulations. The first place winner also receives a $500 cash award.

New Brand Identity To Showcase Garland’s Unique Features
March 29, 2011  The City of Garland’s 2004 Bond Referendum included improvements to Pleasant Valley Road from Firewheel Parkway to Richfield Drive. The improvements include widening the existing 2-lane asphalt roadway to a 4-lane concrete, divided thoroughfare complete with curb and gutter, underground drainage, sidewalks and utility improvements.

Garland Announces Enhancements to Animal Services Department
December 10, 2010  GARLAND, Texas – December 10, 2010 – The City of Garland is implementing an expansion and improvement of its humane animal services policies. Garland Animal Services has created a new partnership with Garland Pawsibilities, a local nonprofit group dedicated to finding good homes for adoptable animals, to open a new Pet Adoption Center. The center will be located at Shiloh Road and Kingsley at a former fire station.

May 24, 2010  Garland, Texas – May 24, 2010 -- Garland Animal Services is preparing to enforce new fencing requirements for pit bull dogs or pit bull crossbreeds. Additionally, 27% of the dogs caught while running at large are pit bull dogs. In response to this growing public safety problem, Garland Animal Services has developed an ordinance based directive that requires owners of pit bull dogs to maintain the animals within a six foot fence.
