If a person obtains, possesses, transfers or uses identifying information of another person without that person's consent, and with the intentions of harm or defraud another, the act is considered a criminal offense. The offense, generally referred to as Identity Theft, is classified as a felony offense. Articles of identifying information include: name, social security number, date of birth, telephone number, and many other unique identifying information items.

The first step is to fill out a Garland Police Department Identity Theft packet (see list below). The packet can be downloaded online or you may picked up in person at the police front desk located in the main lobby of the Garland Police Department at 1891 Forest Lane, Garland, TX 75042. Once the identity theft packet has been completed (along with a notarized copy of the affidavit included) you may return it to the front desk of the police department.
