Garland Parks and Recreation administers a sanctioned Special Olympics program. Special Olympics is an international sports program for athletes, ages eight and up, with intellectual disabilities.
Garland Special Olympics is a year-round program, which currently offers eight different sports opportunities which includes:
No previous athletic experience is required. Athletes are placed in appropriate age and ability levels to maximize opportunities for development and success.
Garland Special Olympics athletes have the opportunity to compete in Local, Area, and even travel to State competitions. Studies have shown athletes with disabilities in Special Olympics display improvements in work, school, and home skills.
A Special Olympics Enrollment/Medical Form must be completed in order to participate.

Garland Special Olympics utilizes many volunteers. Volunteers are needed to assist staff and instructors with participants with special needs in a variety of settings. Special Olympics Texas certifies volunteers as coaches and assistant coaches for many sports.
