Administration & Management Excellence Award
This award recognizes innovations in administration, management or supervisory actions. The award was given in recognition of the Department’s new aquatic staff training program. Staff developed a training program for the seasonal aquatics management team. The program encompasses a new 80-page Management Team Manual, an all-day training and teambuilding workshop, as well as a leadership development workshop. Upon development and initiation, the program was a great success and helped the division achieve the goal of creating a well-trained management team.
Website Excellence Award
The Website Excellence Award recognizes the creativity or innovation in the development of one agency’s website, communicating and promoting the value of public recreation. In 2012, the City of Garland launched a new and improved website (www.garlandtx.gov). Within this new website, Parks and Recreation developed a sub-site (www.garlandparks.com) designed to appeal to visitors of all ages. Parks and Recreation staff used design and information elements with the goal of providing vital information in a user-friendly format. Since the new sub-site was launched, program and rental revenues have increased dramatically. Along with increased revenues, staff has noted savings on activity guide printing and postage costs. Positive feedback has been received on the ease with which information can be found and used on the new site. Through an all new design and innovative, interactive features, garlandparks.com is now the first step citizens can take to “Get Out and PLAY Garland”.
These awards and park designation are the latest in a long history of the Garland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department’s award winning and recognized facilities, services, and staff. This recognition reflects the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department’s vision of Garland being an active, fun, healthy, and inviting city.
