2014 Census of the Homeless

Each year at the end of January, urban and rural areas across Texas conduct a “point-in-time” count of people who may be considered homeless.

The Garland Area Homeless Coalition (GAHC) will conduct the community’s count on Thursday, January 23, 2014 between 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. This year will be the tenth year of the survey.

On the appointed night, volunteers and staff from nonprofit agencies go out and physically count people who fall under the definition of homeless. People who may be considered homeless include those staying on the streets, camping, sleeping in a shelter or living in a car.

The Homeless Count survey provides valuable information to the City and service providers to better serve this vulnerable part of our community. Because of its importance, the GAHC welcomes your assistance. Volunteers conducting the survey also distribute much needed items. Donations are welcomed for the following items: unused socks, gloves and coats; blankets and toiletries.

If you would like to make a donation, please contact contact Mona Woodard, City of Garland at 972-205-2130 or mwoodard@garlandtx.gov
