Non-Recyclable Items

Certain products, if placed in the recycling bins, contaminate the recycling process because they are not marketable commodities.  Therefore, we ask your cooperation to eliminate the following products from your recycling bin:

• Plastic grocery bags, Plastic wrap, candy and chip wrappers and food wrapping.
• Plastic containers that contain hazardous material (such as bleach, motor oil, or antifreeze).
• Styrofoam cups, food clamshells, egg cartons and meat trays labeled #6.
• Wax coated milk, orange juice or food containers.
• Paper towels.
• Pizza boxes coated with cheese and grease (okay to tear off lid if no food or grease spots).
• Paint cans.
• Aerosol cans with chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
• Automotive product containers.
• Aluminum foil or disposable aluminum plates or pie tins.
• Light bulbs (incandescent, fluorescent or CFC).
• Plate glass, auto glass, tempered glass.
• Mirrors or leaded glass.
• Ceramics, ovenware, glass that is not a container.

The following items are not accepted in curbside bins but can be recycled at the following places:

• Household hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals. Note: Take items to Home Chemical Collection Center located at 11234 Plano Road or call 214-553-1765 for operating hours.
• Phone books – recycle at the Drop-Off Recycling Center.
• Plastic grocery or cleaner bags – recycle at your favorite retail store that has a bag collection container at the front of the store.
• Scrap metal – recycle at the Drop-Off Recycling Center.
• Corrugated cardboard too big for the container – recycle at the Drop-Off Recycling Center or at a satellite cardboard recycling container near your neighborhood.
