Recycling

Garland Environmental Waste Services provides curbside collection of recycling to single-family households.

Cartons, mixed paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic containers and jugs #1-5 & #7 and aluminum, steel and tin cans may all be recycled together in the blue cart - no sorting required!

Recycling Guidelines:

  • Place recyclables in the cart loose - plastic bags are not accepted in the program and should be taken back to designated collection bins at grocery and retail stores.
  • All recycling should be clean, dry and empty.
  • Recycling should fit inside the blue cart with the lid closed. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space.
  • Set cart at the collection point by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day.
  • Place the bin 4 feet from your green trash container, so our trucks can easily pick up each container.
  • Do not place containers near mailboxes, electrical or cable boxes, or other stationary objects such as gas or water meter

 Why Recycle?

  • Recycling prevents materials that have economic value from going to waste.
  • Recycling is responsible for expanding the lifespan of our landfill.
  • Recycling conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals.
  • Recycling creates jobs. For every job collecting recyclables, there are 26 jobs in processing the materials and manufacturing them into new products.
  • Recycling prevents pollution. Manufacturing with recycled materials, with very few exceptions, produces less air and water pollution than manufacturing with virgin materials.
  • Recycling can save you money. Each additional trash container comes at a cost. You can reduce the need for additional containers by recycling.
