You can recycle old telephone books at the Drop-Off Recycling Center at 1426 Commerce St. There is a bin specifically for telephone books.
Phonebook papers are 100% recyclable and are used primarily to make new phonebooks! Old phonebooks are also sometimes recycled into building materials and products you use in your home, such as insulation and paper grocery sacks.
We request that you do not recycle telephone books in your curbside container for the following reasons:
- Manually lifting bins full of phone books can be unsafe for our drivers.
- Mixing old phone books in with other waste paper can contaminate the batch, hindering the recyclability of the other paper fibers.
Even better than recycling is to eliminate extra phone directories that you do not use. Go to www.yellowpagesoptout.com to select only the phone books you want to receive.
