February 6, 2015  "The Shop Around the Corner" AND "You've Got Mail"  7 pm
The City of Garland presents one of the most romantic movies of all time, "You've Got Mail," and the movie that inspired it, "The Shop Around the Corner." The original with Jimmy Stewart will begin at 7 pm, after there will be a short intermission, and then the Tom Hanks remake will begin. The perfect night to get in the mood for Valentine's! If you are paying attention, you might notice such details as Joe Fox's grandfather mentioning that long ago, he briefly shared a pen pal romance with the store's previous owner, Cecilia Kelly (Kathleen's mother), and that they only communicated through letters. This may have been a reference to the movie's predecessor, "The Shop Around the Corner" (1940). This event is free and open to the public. Sales of refreshments will benefit the Garland Good Samaritans.

April 11, 2015  "Vertigo"  7 pm
Join us for Alfred Hitchcock's classic masterpiece starring James Stewart and Kim Novak. A retired San Francisco detective suffering from acrophobia investigates the strange activities of an old friend's wife, all the while becoming dangerously obsessed with her.  "Vertigo" was unavailable for decades because its rights (together with four other pictures of the same period) were bought back by Alfred Hitchcock and left as part of his legacy to his daughter. They've been known for long as the infamous "Five Lost Hitchcock's" amongst film buffs, and were re-released in theatres around 1984 after a 30-year absence. This event is free and open to the public. Sales of refreshments will benefit the Garland Good Samaritans.
