Preston Edwards

Preston EdwardsPreston Edwards, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and District 3 Council Member, has called Garland home since his family re-located here from South Texas 49 years ago.  Several years later, Preston met a lovely young woman at a Garland skating rink.  He married Shirley a year later.  Their two children, Sherri and Kevin, not only grew up in Garland, both are now teachers in Garland schools.  Preston makes his living as a barber and enjoys church activities, woodworking, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He has served his city on several boards and special committees including the 1997 Bond Study Committee, the South Garland Plan Implementation Committee, the Housing Standards Board, the South Garland TIF Board and the Chapter 32.9 Blue Ribbon Committee.  “I wanted to have input in discussions and decisions that affect the city where I’ve grown up, raised my family, own a business and is my home,” says Mr. Edwards.

He was elected to represent District 3 on the Garland City Council in May with two main purposes in mind.  “I want to help continue the economic development and redevelopment begun by previous councils and the Chamber of Commerce,” he says.  “I also want to work with public safety issues to ensure Garland continues to be known as a safe, secure place to live, work and play.”

And District 3’s City Council representative wants the people of his District to know that he values their input.  “I’m willing to listen and discuss issues with people.  I’m open to their concerns and opinions.”
