How can I keep my trash container from smelling bad in the hot summer weather?
You can take several steps to reduce odors from your automated green container:

  • Make sure you trash is properly bagged and tied and food containers are rinsed before placing them in your containers.
  • Put your full containers at your collection site the morning of or night before your regularly scheduled pick-up. Storing full containers in the hot sun can increase the potential for odor.
  • Wash out your trash cart with hot water and a small amount of bleach or baking soda. Leave the lid open and allow container to dry completely before using.

Where and when should I put my green trash container on pick up days?
The green trash container should be placed at the collection point no earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before the scheduled collection and no later than 7 a.m. on collection day. Residents should move the container to the side of the house or to a location out of public view no later than 11 p.m. on the collection day. If your collection point is in the alley, it is not necessary to move the container after pickup unless your property abuts a street from which the container will be visible.
