| Garland is the fifth largest city in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. As one of the fastest growing regions in the country, the DFW Metroplex is home to over 6,370,000 people. By 2050, the number of residents is projected to almost double. Garland, therefore, seeks to aggressively attract new residents into the community through a number of different initiatives. By doing so, the City plans to increase its residential market share by a greater amount (in red) than currently forecasted (in blue). Its diverse, stable, and skilled existing population serves as an excellent platform for its future growth. | Year | 1990 | 2000 | 2010 | 2020 | 2030 | | Population Trends | 180,650 | 215,768 | 226,876 | 234,650 | 241,767 | | CAGR* | 1.79% | 0.50% | 0.34% | 0.30% | 0.30% | | 2011 Population Density (persons per square mile): 3,917.62 | * Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) Source: U.S. Census, North Central Texas Council of Governments
