Garland, Texas – January 10, 2005 – The City of Garland’s 2004 Star Spangled Fourth continues to receive international recognition, receiving the Gala Award for Best Fair/Festival from the International Special Events Society and Special Events Magazine. The winners of this year’s Gala Awards were named Saturday, January 8 in Miami, Florida. Entries for the competition went through three rounds of judging to earn a nomination. Also nominated was the “First Flight Centennial Celebration” in Concord, North Carolina, to honor the 100-year anniversary of the aviation achievements of Orville and Wilbur Wright. The third nominee was a Sacramento, California festival celebrating the programs of First 5 Sacramento, an agency focused on the health of children under age five, and featuring kid-friendly information and activities. "It is an honor and a privilege for the City of Garland to have received this award," said Cindy Vochatzer, producer of the event. "We are thrilled to be a part of such an exciting industry where top event planners from around the world come together to share ideas. The award was the icing on the cake." In November, The City of Garland’s annual Independence Day festival was recognized with four Gold Awards, three Silver Awards and three Bronze Awards in the 2004 Pinnacle Awards competition sponsored by the International Festivals and Events Association (IFEA).
Record crowds attended Star Spangled Fourth 2004. More than 157,000 people enjoyed the five-day carnival and festival. Event organizers are hard at work on the entertainment and special attractions for the 2005 event. Those details will be announced during the spring.
